How billing works

Seats

A seat is everyone who can sign in and work, and every invite not yet accepted. Client guests are free.

12 people and 2 invites on Studio annual: 14 seats × $144 = $2,016 a year, paid upfront.

Someone who leaves frees their seat for the next person until the renewal, which is charged for the people on the team then.

Agents

Agents are included and never a seat.

Run in Claude Code uses your own Claude account; Tengu never holds your Claude login. You create the routine in Claude and paste its trigger token into Tengu, and each run draws on your Claude plan.

That is why Tengu doesn’t meter or resell agent runs.

The AI pool

$2 of AI each month per seat

Board and Studio include AI for Tengu Bot and, on a paid Studio plan, NPCs, in one pool for the whole organization. A 10-person team gets $20 of AI a month.

What uses it

  • Tengu Bot’s answers and the tickets it writes from Slack, on Board and Studio.
  • Meeting recaps and tickets from screen recordings, on Studio.
  • NPCs working tickets, on a paid Studio plan: each run starts with what the pool can give it, and stops there.

At the limit

Owners and admins get a heads-up at 80%. At 100% the AI pauses until your next billing period starts, or until the owner adds a top-up. Help, /tengu new, finding tickets by keyword, link previews and notifications keep working.

Run in Claude Code isn’t part of it: it runs on your own Claude account.

Top-ups

  • $10adds $8 of AI
  • $25adds $20 of AI
  • $50adds $40 of AI

The owner adds one in Admin › AI usage, and it is charged when bought and isn’t refunded. Its AI is good for a month, not counting time the plan isn’t paid.

Auto top-up adds a pack when the AI runs out (on a paid Studio plan, also when an NPC run needs more than the pool has free), charged to the card when it’s added, like any top-up. It is off until the owner turns it on. Top-ups, bought or automatic, come to at most $200 a month, or $1,000 on a paid Studio plan; ask us if you need more.

Compared with what you pay now

A 25-person team

ClickUp Business, its Brain AI add-on and Hubstaff Team each bill per user. Studio bills per seat too, with client guests free and agents never a seat.

ClickUp Business + Brain AI + Hubstaff Teamabout $775 / month
ClickUp Business $12 + ClickUp Brain AI $9 + Hubstaff Team $10 = $31 a seat × 25
Tengu Studio, annualabout $300 / month
$12 per seat × 25, agents included

Competitor figures are per-user list prices, October 2026, from each vendor’s pricing page, on annual billing where it is offered. ClickUp plans include a set number of free guests. The comparison assumes your lists have moved into Tengu: while a list stays in ClickUp, the people working it keep their ClickUp seats.

Questions

Billing, plainly

What is a seat?
Everyone who can sign in and work: the owner, admins, Operations and members, plus every invite not yet accepted. Client guests are free and agents are never a seat. Free covers up to 5 people, invites and admins included.
What happens when we add someone?
If the plan has an open seat, they take it. If not, the new seat is charged at once for the time left until the renewal (amounts under $0.50 are added to the next charge). Admins and Operations can invite people too: when no seat is open, their invite charges the card (someone in Operations adds at most 3 paid seats a day), and the owner and admins get an email with the amount. Invites nobody accepts are canceled 14 days after their link expires, which frees the seat.
And when someone leaves?
Their seat stays open until the renewal, for the next person you add. There is no refund or credit for it. The renewal is charged for the people on the team then.
Monthly or annual?
Both renew automatically until the owner cancels. Monthly is charged each month for the seats on the plan. Annual is 12 months at the lower rate, paid upfront, about 20% less on Studio. You can switch either way: it takes effect at the renewal.
Is there a minimum?
No. A team of one pays for one seat.
Can we change plans?
Moving up to Studio happens right away, charged for the time left. Moving down to Board, or switching between monthly and annual, happens at the renewal.
How do we cancel?
The owner cancels in Admin › Billing at any time. The plan doesn't renew: it runs to the end of the period you paid for. Until then, seats you add and top-ups (auto top-up too, if it's on) are still charged. Then a team of 5 or fewer moves to Free and a bigger team is paused. Your data is kept. After 30 days paused, Tengu removes its keys to the tools you connected (ClickUp sign-ins, the Claude routine, Supabase, Intercom, PostHog and Google Drive) and stops imports still running; after 30 days on Free, it removes those Free doesn't include (Supabase, Intercom, PostHog and Google Drive). With Google Drive goes the text Tengu copied from your docs; the docs stay on their shelves and answer again on Studio once whoever picked them connects Google Drive again. The owner and admins hear 7 days before, and you reconnect them when you come back.
What if a payment fails?
You have 3 business days to fix it, and the owner or an admin can. After that a team of 5 or fewer moves to Free, and a bigger team is paused until someone pays. Paused months are never billed. Coming back within 60 days of the stop pays for the grace days used.
Can we get a refund?
Annual plans: a pro-rata refund of the unused time if you ask within 14 days of paying for the year (the first payment, a renewal or a switch to annual) or for added seats. Write to hello@tengu.work. Refunding the year ends the plan, and with it any discount we gave it, and refunds any seats or upgrade paid since. Added seats are refunded once they’re open: remove the people first. Monthly plans and top-ups aren’t refunded. The terms have the full billing rules.
Is Tengu Bot unlimited?
No. Each paid plan includes $2 of AI per seat each month, in one pool for the organization, for Tengu Bot's answers, tickets from Slack, meeting recaps and video tickets, and on a paid Studio plan for NPCs too. Seats added partway through a month add AI for the time left. Owners and admins get a heads-up at 80%. At 100% the AI pauses until your next billing period starts, or until the owner adds a top-up ($10 adds $8, $25 adds $20, $50 adds $40), charged when bought and good for a month, up to $200 of top-ups a month ($1,000 on a paid Studio plan). The month stands still while the plan isn't paid. Free doesn't include the bot. Run in Claude Code isn't part of it: it runs on your own Claude account.
What's on Free?
Up to 5 people with native lists, importers, Run in Claude Code, the agent API and Hunters. Moving to a paid plan keeps everything; moving back hides what Free doesn't include and deletes nothing.
Do prices include tax?
No. Prices are in US dollars and Tengu doesn't collect sales tax or VAT.
